New City Manager Selected

CHAMBLEE, Ga.--  (submitted by City of Chamblee)  

On March 15, 2011, the Chamblee City Council voted unanimously to offer the city manager position to Niles Ford, Ph.D.

Mr. Ford is currently the Fire Chief of Lincoln, Nebraska, a position he has held since 2007. Prior to that, he served as a Deputy Fire Chief in Fulton County, Georgia for 5 years.

The city attorney will be contacting Mr. Ford to begin negotiations on his contract. The position was advertised with a salary range from $110,000.00 to $130,000.00.

CEO Burrell Ellis Tells Feds Proposed Budget Cuts Hurt Dekalb County

Dekalb County, GA--  (submitted by Dekalb Communications) CEO Burrell Ellis joined fellow county chief executives in Washington this weekend to oppose $60 billion in proposed budget cuts scheduled for a vote by the U. S. House this week. If implemented, these cuts would cost the county more than $10 million this year.

“Congress is considering $60 billion in cuts, which could mean an additional 700,000 jobs lost,” said CEO Ellis. “DeKalb County stands to lose $9.9 million in 2011, alone.”

Chamblee City Council has selected 2 Finalists for the City Manager Position

Chamblee, GA--  (submitted by the City of Chamblee)  On February 28, 2011, the Chamblee City Council selected two finalists in their search for a new city manager.

Those finalists are Gary Adams, Village Administrator of Oswego, Illinois; and Niles Ford, Ph.D., Fire Chief of Lincoln, Nebraska.

The City retained the services of Colin Baenziger & Associates to conduct a national search to fill the position vacated by former city manager Jim Gleason last November. The firm received 107 applications and recommended nine to the City for further consideration. The City Council narrowed the list to five and invited them to interviews on February 26th and 28th.

The City Council anticipates selecting the next city manager at their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday evening, March 15, 2011.

A Special Called Meeting of the Mayor and City Council has been scheduled for Tuesday, March 1, 2011.  The meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Chamblee City Hall located at 5468 Peachtree Road, Chamblee GA 30341

The meeting is being held with the specific intention of going into Executive Session to discuss finalists for City Manager.

DeKalb County will Host 4 Public Information Meetings on Transportation Projects

Dekalb County, GA--  4 neighborhood public information meetings are being held to provide input into the proposed transportation projects that must be submitted to the Georgia DOT by March 30th, 2011.

Each city and county has until March 30, 2011 to submit proposed projects that will be considered by the GDOT Planning Director and the Regional Roundtable of city and county leaders from which they will select a constrained project list that will be recommended for the 2012 Referendum.

These four public information meetings will be important opportunities for DeKalb residents and businesses to ensure that all ideas are considered.
