Riverwood hires new assistant principal

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- Riverwood International Charter School has hired Charles Amica Jr. as its newest assistant principal.

Amica comes to Riverwood from Hillgrove High School in Cobb County, where he was an assistant principal and athletic director. He has also worked for schools in Mableton, Chamblee and Stone Mountain.

"I've known (Amica) for a number of years and have directly worked with him for the last four. He brings a wealth of experiences and skill sets to Riverwood ... He is also known as a leader who works to get to know faculty, students and community members," Dr. Robert Shaw, Riverwood's new principal, said in a statement.

Amica earned undergraduate degrees in education and business education from Georgia Southern University; he also holds a graduate degree in administration from Jacksonville State University. He lives in Union City with his wife and three sons.

"I am truly looking forward to being a part of the Riverwood faculty," Amica said in a statement. "I enjoy being a part of high school students' lives because it serves as the springboard to adulthood for our students. Helping direct young lives towards becoming productive citizens in society has always been my passion."
