Weekend roadwork: Sign structure and bridge repairs

(WXIA) -- Drivers in the Atlanta area are asked to avoid the southwest side of Interstate 285 this weekend, as construction crews will complete road projects in the area.

Weekend roadwork will take place on several other stretches of highway and interstate throughout metro Atlanta as well. The rainy weather may delay some projects.

Planned work includes:

Coweta County
* 1 northbound lane of I-85 will be closed between two miles north of Highway 34 and McCollum-Sharpsburg Road from 8 a.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for sweeping.

Fulton County
* 2 northbound and 2 southbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and I-20 from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for sign structure work.
* 2 northbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between Washington Road and Camp Creek Parkway from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for concrete rehabilitation.
* 3 westbound lanes and a shoulder of I-20 will be closed between the Downtown Connector and Langhorn Street from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for bridge joint repairs.
* 2 eastbound lanes of I-20 will be closed between Fulton Industrial Boulevard and I-285 from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for bridge joint repairs.
* 1 northbound and 1 southbound lane of Ga. 400 will be closed between Sidney Marcus Boulevard and the Mountain Way overpass from 7 a.m. Saturday to 7 p.m. Sunday for cable installation.
* 1 southbound lane of Ga. 400 will be closed at Lenox Road on Saturday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. for pole installation. The Lenox Road exit ramp will also be closed.

Newton County
* 2 eastbound lanes of I-20 will be closed at Old Oxford Road between Almon Road and Highway 278 from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for bridge repairs.

Weekend events that may impact traffic include the Hawks games at Philips Arena (Friday at 7:30 p.m., Sunday at 7:30 p.m.), the Honda Battle of the Bands at the Georgia Dome (Saturday at 3 p.m.), and the Hot Chocolate 15K/5K at Turner Field (Sunday at 7:30 a.m.).
