Elton John concert coming to local movie theaters

(WXIA) -- Elton John: The Million Dollar Piano, a live broadcast of the legendary singer's current residency show at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, will come to several Atlanta-area movie theaters for two nights only.

The concerts will be shown at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 18 and Wednesday, Mar. 26.

In addition to concert footage, Elton John: The Million Dollar Piano features behind-the-scenes footage from the making of John's iconic 1973 album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.

Tickets to the concert screenings can be purchased at fathomevents.com.

IHOP offering free pancakes for charitable donations

(WXIA) -- IHOP will once again participate in the National Pancake Day promotion on Tuesday, Mar. 4.

Customers who visit any IHOP location on National Pancake Day will be treated to a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes. In exchange, the restaurant chain encourages diners to leave a donation for a number of charities, namely the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

Beginning this Saturday, Feb. 1, IHOP will collect donations for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Customers can buy paper balloons that cost either $1 or $5. The balloons will hang in IHOP restaurants through National Pancake Day.

Anyone who purchases a $5 balloon will receive a $5 IHOP coupon to use on a future visit.

History center to hold architecture Lunch & Learn

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- The DeKalb History Center will hold a Lunch & Learn with architectural historian Dr. Richard Cloues later this month.

Cloues will present his lecture, "After the Bungalow, Before the Ranch: The Small American House Phenomenon, 1920s-1950s" on Tuesday, Jan. 21 at noon.

He will speak in the Old Superior Courtroom at the Historic DeKalb Courthouse in downtown Decatur.

The lecture is free and open to the public. Attendees are permitted to bring lunch.

DeKalb representatives to hold hearing on proposed cities

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- The DeKalb House and Senate Delegation has planned a hearing for four proposed cities.

Georgia Rep. Dar'shun Kendrick, who represents unincorporated portions of Lithonia, Loganville, Snellville and Stone Mountain, will host the public meeting on Thursday, Jan. 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The hearing will center around the possible cities of Briarcliff, Lakeside, Stonecrest and Tucker. Proponents for each city will have 45 minutes to present their cases for cityhood.

The meeting will be held in Room 606 of the Coverdell Legislative Office Building in downtown Atlanta.

Look out for runners on Ga. 400

ATLANTA -- Don't be alarmed if you see a whole bunch of people running down Georgia 400 this weekend.

The Pay the Last Toll road race will be held Sunday, Nov. 17 at 8:30 a.m., and gives athletes one last opportunity to see the infamous toll booths before they are demolished.

Runners will begin at the Glenridge Connector in Sandy Springs and run south to Phipps Plaza. When they reach the toll booths, they will throw in their final 50 cents. All proceeds will go to charity.

Northbound lanes of Ga. 400 will be closed for the race from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday.

Georgia Department of Transportation crews will also spend part of the weekend tearing down a MARTA pedestrian bridge on southbound Ga. 400.

DeKalb recognizes Domestic Violence Awareness Day

DECATUR, Ga. -- Tuesday, Oct. 22 has been named Domestic Violence Awareness Day in DeKalb County.

DeKalb Solicitor-General Sherry Boston is passionate about ending domestic violence.

"I am pleased to see DeKalb County recognize Domestic Violence Awareness Day so that we can spread the word about this very serious problem," Boston said in a statement. "It's important that we stop the cycle of abuse that is often passed down from generation to generation."

Boston recently helped create a Special Victims Unit in DeKalb County. The police unit will investigate and prosecute domestic violence and stalking crimes.
