All About Developmental Disabilities to hold workshop series on sexuality

DECATUR, Ga. -- This fall, All About Developmental Disabilities (AADD) will host a four-part workshop series on sexuality and developmental disabilities. Parents and adults with developmental disabilities will learn about sexuality, how parents can support their child’s sexual behavior and romantic relationships, and how to handle sex on the Internet and in other media.

The sessions will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Aug. 26, Sept. 23, Oct. 21 and Nov. 18. All sessions will be held at AADD’s Family Support Center, 125 Clairemont Avenue Suite 300, Decatur. The cost is $10 per session.

GDOT to hold hearings on major highway project

DUNWOODY, Ga. -- Members of the public are invited to attend one of several hearings about the Georgia Department of Transportation's plans to reconstruction the Interstate 285 and Georgia 400 interchange.

The proposed project would begin, on I-285, west of Roswell Road in Sandy Springs, and extend to east of Ashford Dunwoody Road in neighboring Dunwoody.

On Georgia 400, it would begin just south of the Glenridge Connector and extend north to the Hammond Drive interchange area.

Possible improvements to the roads include:

* Construction of barrier-separated lanes along I-285 and Ga. 400

* Reconstruction of existing ramps between the two highways

* Building new flyover bridges and reconstructing the existing ones

* Construction of braided ramps to eliminate conflicts between traffic entering and exiting Ga. 400

'Fat Sick & Nearly Dead 2' coming to metro Atlanta theaters

'Fat Sick & Nearly Dead 2' coming to metro Atlanta theaters

(WXIA) -- A sequel to the popular health documentary Fat Sick & Nearly Dead will be screened at several Atlanta-area movie theaters next month.

Fat Sick & Nearly Dead 2 will play Thursday, Sept. 18 at 7:30 p.m.

The first film, released in 2010, followed Australian filmmaker Joe Cross in his quest to lose 100 pounds by consuming fruit and vegetable juice. In the second movie, Cross and a team of experts will explore broader themes of diet and health.

Cross credited his juice-based diet with helping him lose a considerable amount of weight and rid his body of a chronic auto-immune disease. He has since founded Reboot with Joe, which supports people in their decision to make positive dietary and lifestyle changes.

Fat Sick & Nearly Dead 2 will be shown at these theaters:

Recording artists raise money for Habitat for Humanity

Recording artists raise money for Habitat for Humanity

ATLANTA -- An upcoming concert at Chastain Park Amphitheater will also support Habitat for Humanity - DeKalb.

O.A.R. and Phillip Phillips will perform at the Atlanta amphitheater on Saturday, July 26 at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. for the non-table show.

Tickets range in price from $35.50 to $40.50 and can be purchased at classicchastain.com.

Habitat for Humanity - DeKalb spokesperson Julie Hopkins said that for every ticket O.A.R. and Phillip Phillips sell on their summer tour, $1 will be donated to Habitat for Humanity. DeKalb partners families and representatives will attend the July 26 show as special guests of the artists.

DeKalb to host workshop for former offenders

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- DeKalb Workforce Development has planned a workshop that will give ex-offenders the skills they need to succeed.

The forum, "Bridging the Gap and Breaking Barriers," will be held Wednesday, July 9 from noon to 5 p.m. at DeKalb Workforce Development. It will be hosted in conjunction with the county's Council of Recidivism and Re-entry program.

Attendees will be given access to knowledge and skills that can help them find jobs, return to school and seek out community agencies that can continue to guide them on the path to healthy and productive lives.

DeKalb Fire to participate in World CPR Challenge Day

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- Wednesday, May 21 is World CPR Challenge Day, and DeKalb County Fire Rescue is offering residents a chance to learn this lifesaving skill for free.

The department has teamed up with American Medical Response to host CPR clinics at locations across the county. AMR technicians will teach compression-only CPR (set to the beat of the Bee Gees' "Stayin' Alive") from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Ga. Connections Academy accepting students for 2014-15 school year

(WXIA) -- A few seats are still available at Georgia Connections Academy for the 2014-15 school year.

Georgia Connections Academy is a virtual K-12 public school that allows students to learn at their own pace. It is fully accredited and open to all school-age Georgia children.

"We are enrolling 1,000 additional students across all grade levels for the coming academic year," lead principal Heather Robinson said in a release. "We have a waiting list as we open enrollment, so we encourage parents to get their applications in now."
