Fernbank Museum Hosts Island Adventure Night at Martinis & IMAX to Celebrate New Galapagos Film

Fernbank’s Martinis & IMAX® Makes Science Sizzle during Island Adventure Night

Just when you mistakenly thought Charles Darwin was a 19th-century bearded scientist with his nose stuck in a journal, Fernbank’s Martinis & IMAX® reveals that naturalists like Darwin live at the mercy of their adventurous spirit. Join Fernbank, along with “ship’s captain” Big Mike Geier and his musical crew from Tongo Hiti, for this special Island Adventure night of Martinis & IMAX® on September 30, 2011, from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Drawing inspiration from Galapagos, an incredible IMAX® film that explores the islands’ diverse species that left Charles Darwin fascinated with science150 years earlier, as well as from Darwin, an enthralling exhibition filled with the tools of discovery, live animals and the never-ending curiosities of the natural world, Fernbank’s Island Adventure sets up some observations and events that Darwin himself wouldn’t have been able to resist, including:

·         Live music by Tongo Hiti, the ultimate tiki band

·         Performances and hula lessons by The Dames Aflame

·         A full bar featuring themed cocktails, including the Galapagos Gimlet

·         A special appearance by legendary simian-sapien MonkeyZuma

·         A special Darwin Dress Up Photo Booth to ensure everyone has proof they’ve been inspired by science.

Helping make conversations more interesting for the rest of the weekend, Martinis & IMAX® also features:

·         Screenings of Galapagos, in the IMAX® Theatre

·         Evening viewing hours for the special exhibition Darwin

Ticket prices start at $7 for general event admission and admission to Darwin. IMAX®-only tickets are $13 for adults. Martinis & IMAX® Value Pass tickets, which include film and exhibition admission, are $19. Museum Members receive free general event admission and tickets to Darwin, and can purchase IMAX®-only tickets for $7.  Reservations are available online at fernbankmuseum.org or by phone at 404.929.6400.

Martinis & IMAX® is offered every Friday (January-November) from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. and features a series of special themes throughout the year. The event is held at Fernbank Museum of Natural History, located at 767 Clifton Road in Atlanta. For visitor information, visit fernbankmuseum.org.
