CHAMBLEE | High Road Craft Ice Cream wins Flavor of Ga. contest

CHAMBLEE, Ga. -- High Road Craft Ice Cream has been named the grand champion at this year's Flavor of Georgia Competition.

The Chamblee-based creamery's Brown Butter Praline Ice Cream beat 24 other local products in the contest, which is sponsored by the University of Georgia Center for Agribusiness and Economic Development.

High Road Craft's Caffeine and Cacao Ice Cream won first place in the dairy division in the 2011 contest.

"It's really a good way to get feedback," creamery co-founder Keith Schroeder said in a statement, adding that he and wife Nicki believe the contest is the ideal place to test new flavors. "You get young and old, rural and urban here in the same place. You don't see that very often, and it's important because different people have different tastes."

The Schroeders founded High Road Craft Ice Cream in 2010. Nicki handles the marketing side of the business, while Keith takes care of product development.

High Road Craft products are available in Whole Foods stores throughout the Southeast and will be in the freezers of local Fresh Markets beginning next month.
