DeKalb County offering free pet adoptions

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- Throughout the month of September, DeKalb County Animal Services will offer free dog and cat adoptions.

Animal services director Susan Feingold said as many as 30 pets enter the shelter every day, creating an urgent need for public support.

"By waiving adoption fees, we hope to see a record number of people coming into the shelter and giving our wonderful animals a new life," Feingold said.

The "Fall in Love" adoption promotion allows DeKalb County residents to take home a dog or cat of any age. All animals are spayed and neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on vaccinations.

Father, son targeted in home invasion

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- A man was hurt in a home invasion at his DeKalb County apartment Monday morning.

It happened at around 2:30 a.m. at the Park Pointe North Apartments in the 3300 block of Flowers Road South.

A DeKalb County Police spokesperson said the victim and his son were inside their unit when they heard a knock on the door. The father looked through the peephole and thought he recognized the person on the other side of the door, so he opened it.

When the victim opened the door, five men stormed into the unit, demanding money. Police said one of the suspects punched the victim in the eye.

The suspects only stayed in the apartment for about 30 seconds and left without taking anything, according to police.

The victim's son reportedly recognized two of the suspects. He was uninjured, while his father was not seriously hurt.

The home invasion is under investigation.
